In case I am unable to speak remotely for the meeting tonight, here are my
comments in advance.
Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, Council members, and honorable staff,
I’m Jenny Michel, a native living in D3, a recovering homeless teacher, and
a disabled bus rider.
Personal comments:
I want to thank the staff for bringing this item forward especially because
of the recently passed legislation, we might not hear this item again for
another six (6) years to amend the code for residential units.
I support all of the staffs recommendations except to include policy
option C (flexpath), in addition to options A & B.
Menlo Park is not alone in prioritizing greater safety, healthier homes and
neighborhoods with better indoor/outdoor air quality, lowering emissions,
and reducing energy bill costs. Los Altos Hills, Sunnyvale, Los Angeles,
San Francisco, and Palo Alto are taking a similar approach as Menlo Park!
It has been said in the past by council members that Menlo Park is small
and does not have an impact on climate issues or solutions. I disagree! We
are one of the most influential small cities in the world because of our
vast wealth and proximity to Stanford. What we do today matters for
generations. We are a leader in this region and this action today will help
cement that reality into the future. Let’s continue to show our children
this is the way and keep in line with our climate goals.
Thank you for your consideration!
Jenny from the Coleman Place block
