Dear members of the Menlo Park City Council,
I am writing to express my hope that the City Council fully support staffs recommendations with ONE IMPORTANT EXCEPTION:
- INCLUDE POLICY OPTION C (FLEXPATH), IN ADDITION TO OPTIONS A & B
It is important that we act now to adopt these local amendments that will promote:
• greater safety
• healthier homes and neighborhoods with better indoor and outdoor air quality
• lower emissions creating a brighter future for our children
• cost-savings from lower energy bills
• future proofing homes and buildings which could prevent more costly expenses down the road
As we know, Menlo Park gets clean electricity from Peninsula Clean Energy, who offers both technical assistance and financial support (rebates and 0% financing) to Menlo Park residents and businesses to help with complying with the requirements of these codes. The RMI study which shows that electrification can save San Mateo County residents, on average, $360/year on energy bills, with even greater savings for low-income customers on the CARE program.
This may be the last chance for the next six years so its critical that Menlo Park do all that it can NOW. I sincerely hope that Menlo Park will join the several other cities in the Bay Area and across the state are making attempts as well to adopt these codes before it is too late!
I want to thank you and city staff for your service to our community and leadership in moving forward with these opportunities before its too late!
