Dear Menlo Park City Council, Please migrate our building stock off Natural Gas emissions by prioritizing Reach Codes under Title 24, Part 6. Reach codes are the first, critical, simple step to decarbonize buildings. 32 Cities within PCE & SVCE territory plus Santa Clara and San Mateo counties are asked to adopt the Reach Code to support all electric (fossil free) buildings. The Reach Code is under development right now by a consulting team (TRC & DNV GL) for PCE & SVCE, which are collectively investing half a million $ into the effort. Please ask staff to bring a reach code to council net zero carbon emissions 2020 by July. Breaking the cycle of new buildings hooking up to natural gas is one of the most impactful things we can do on climate.
