Dear Mayor Coombs and City Manager Murphy,
I am requesting that you add the Burgess pool operations to the August 12,
2025 agenda as a study session item.
Ongoing financial issues have already forced hour reductions at Burgess
Pool beginning August 18, and both town aquatic facilities remain at risk
of further cuts or closure. These pools serve our entire community - from
seniors maintaining their health through water exercise to families
teaching children essential water safety skills.
Having moved to menlo park last August and recently purchased our home in
Allied Arts, Burgess pool has been a home for our family this year. Our
eldest son joined PASA swim team and both of our other children have taken
swim lessons there. We have used the pool this summer as our "go to" place
to get the kids in the water. As a former lifeguard and water polo player I
can say access to pools transforms lives helping kiddos get comfortable and
safe in the water!
Our community needs your immediate attention to preserve these essential
public amenities that we all help fund as taxpayers.
