Please accept the EQCs recommendations

Dear council members,

I am writing to urge you to accept the recommendations of the Menlo Park EQC, specifically:

“We recommend that the city draft and enact an ordinance that is simple, outlining one core authority, which is to prohibit the installation of new gas equipment in homes & buildings throughout the city.”

In addition, please move forward with these EQC recommendations:

1) protect low income residents (per their recommendations in the Guardrails section of the memo) and

2) reduce the “hassle factor” of electrification policies for building owners (per their recommendations in the Reducing Barriers section).

Thank you for your leadership on this critical issue. We have no time to waste, and we cannot take baby steps towards a fossil fuel free future. Any short term costs to adopt these policy changes will be minuscule in comparison to the costs we will face from climate change disasters if we do not take bold and decisive action right now to electrify buildings and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions.

Sincerely,

Nicole Angiel
