City management is proposing that the City hire six new benefited positions to reopen the Gymnastics program.
At a time when the City is trying to save money and manage out of control pension costs, this move makes zero fiscal sense, considering a private vendor (Gold Star Gymnastics) has already proposed running the program for the City and can offer full services from day one.
Even with the proposed hiring of 6 new full time benefited positions, the City Program is stating they can’t even reach full programing capacity till May 2022 or later. Before Covid the City program was losing money and cutting classes because they couldn’t staff them and the program was poorly managed.
Just makes more sense to contract the program out to a reputable company and reduce the cost to the City. See attached staff report, which neglects to include proposal the City received from Gold Star Gymnastics to run the program:
