> Dear Menlo Park City Council Members, > > I am urging you to postpone your decision to invest in 8 gas-burning police cars that only get up to 24 mpg, and choose electric vehicles instead. There are many local experts who can help you identify such options -- please let me know if you'd like suggestions. Electric vehicles are faster, cleaner, cheaper to fuel, and require almost NO maintenance. I am the owner of a Volt, which I love. It has a back-up gas motor in case I run out of charge, but I rarely do. I gas up maybe 2 - 3 times per year!!!! The car has good pick up, and goes faster than I’m allowed on the freeway (don’t ask how I know that!). You might also consider a Toyota hydrogen gas car. Please consider all the non-polluting options before you make this vital decision. We want Menlo Park to be a leader in reducing climate change, not an also-ran! > > Gas cars will be a stranded asset sooner than most people think - don't waste taxpayer money on outdated technology that pollutes our air and reverses progress on meeting our climate targets. This is a climate emergency - please treat it as such, and give our police the technology they deserve. > > Sincerely, Margo McAuliffe Menlo Park resident When a great ship is in harbor and moored, it is safe, there can be no doubt.
