Dear Councilmembers:
Because natural gas is such a dangerous climate pollutant and that, upon combustion, degrades indoor air quality and outdoor air quality, I encourage the Menlo-Park Environmental Quality Commission to accept the findings in the staff report of 8/18/2021. Indoor natural gas combustion causes asthma and other respiratory illnesses. Outdoors it is a major contributor to smog. The justifiable concerns over equity are well addressed in the staff report.
With the air darkened with wildfire smoke, after thousands died in the recent unprecedented Northwest Heat Dome, cutbacks to the Colorado river distribution, and other never-seen-before events, do I need to say, “act fast and act decisively.”
