Dear Council Members: I write to strongly support approval of the Library budget item to add 3.25 permanent staff positions in the Library. As the Library moves toward expanded hours and services in both the Belle Haven Branch and Main Library, this request, while very modest, will help the Library to accomplish these improvements. Menlo Park Library ranks near the bottom of other Peninsula libraries when comparing hours and staffing, among other things. This should not be, and a vote tonight to add these permanent employee positions will benefit our community and help to raise our standing among our peer libraries. Support of our libraries shows the measure of the commitment of the community to its citizens. I urge you to vote yes to the library budget request this evening.
