City council members, I’ve been reading about the group urging the MP city council to mandate all electric. Although I think these people do believe they are making a sound and valid recommendation, I do not believe it makes sense. Perhaps consider a trial for new buildings. Or provide a rebate / incentive for those willing and able to make the switch.
Please do not consider demanding that existing property owners retrofit. In addition to forcing something that is not proven to be a valid choice (sounds good but the reality of electricity sourcing, infrastructure costs, actual availability of the new volume of electricity, etc. must be considered), it would also put an undue burden on property owners with fixed incomes, apartment owners, and the like. And you know that would only increase the rents and cause further hardship on lower income residents.
