We agree with the climate-change-motivated updates to our local building codes to require all-electric newly-built homes and super-major remodels (where people gut everything but four walls), and we even agree with adding an electric outlet for charging electric and hybrid cars to these homes.
However, we strongly believe it is a bad idea on many levels to require existing homes to comply with these rules.
We have gone through a kitchen remodel and have had failed water heaters, but our basic 1955 bungalow cannot support the kind of changes suggested by the proposed "replace with electric" rules.
