Support for Agenda Item Number H1

Dear Menlo Park City Council,

My name is Audra Loh, and I am a resident of Menlo Park. I’m writing to
voice my strong support for Agenda Item H1 and urge you to adopt the local
building code amendments—including pre-wiring, AC-to-heat-pump (AC2HP), and
the Flex Path ordinance—at your August 12th meeting.

As a 17-year-old, I’m deeply concerned about the future we are inheriting.
The decisions you make now will shape the world my generation grows up
in—our health, safety, and stability depend on local action like this. I
want my kids to be able to breathe in fresh air and observe the beautiful
nature we have today. Expanding electrification and reducing fossil fuel
use in buildings is one of the most meaningful things cities can do to
combat climate change, especially since buildings are such a large source
of emissions.

These amendments not only reduce emissions but also improve air quality,
protect public health, and lower energy costs—all while leveraging Menlo
Park’s access to clean electricity from Peninsula Clean Energy. I also want
to encourage council to push for the Flex Path (Option 3) as it adds
flexibility while ensuring major remodels meaningfully reduce climate
impact.

I want to thank the Council and staff for showing leadership, especially in
the face of recently passed state legislation that limits this kind of
local action in the future. Due to AB 130, this is our last chance to adopt
code amendments for the next six years. Please don’t miss this final
window. We are counting on you!

Best,

Audra Loh
