This letter is in support of the proposed electrification measures to be reviewed tonight in Menlo Park's study session. I am an architect and building owner who has designed and built dozens of all electric buildings over the past 20 years, including a few adjacent to Menlo Park. One of them - the David and Lucile Packard Foundation in Los Altos - is all electric and net positive energy; even more importantly, it is a building well loved by the community and the building owners. We have also helped Stanford University successfully renovate a student dorm and kitchen to be all electric just this year. This pilot study is the first of many planned electrification projects that campus is pursuing over the coming years as it transitions to all electric new and existing buildings.
The time is right for these changes. The climate crisis demands this bold action, and building technology and design knowledge are at the right point for this to be brought into the mainstream. All building types can be designed and built all electric these days, and the life cycle costs of building and operating these buildings are favorable.
Please enact this ordinance.
Regards.
