Electric Mandate

Dear Council Members: Please do not go ahead with your plan to mandate electric heating, water heaters and appliances for commercial and new residential construction. Electric heat and electric water heaters are extremely expensive to operate. I can’t imagine having to cook with electricity again as it take so long to warm up and cool down. After the 1989 earthquake, we were still able to cook, have heat and take showers. Mandating electricity instead of gas would negatively affect low and middle income households. If you want to address climate change, get people out of their cars and onto their bikes by putting a bike path next to Caltrain between Palo Alto and Ravenswood and away from the cars on El Camino. Make the bike-way easy to access from Alma in Palo Alto and people can ride safely through Menlo Park. When doing the grade separations at the tracks, perhaps that bike path could continue through those intersections as part of the design. But whatever you do, do not mandate electricity for heating, cooking and bathing. Thank you, Louise DEDERA 1003 Louise St., Menlo Park Sent from my iPhone Received on Tue Sep 10 2019 - 16:31:36 PDT
