Comment on Agenda Topic I2 "Speed Limits"

I strongly support the recommendations from Staff regarding the changes in speed limits in several streets, as described in this Staff Report.

I have direct, and regular, experience with two of the streets described in the report and Ill briefly comment on them.

On "Middlefield Road - City Limits (Atherton) to City Limits (Palo Alto)" (from 35mph to 30mph)

Every time I drive through this segment of Middlefield I think that 35 mph is too fast. The Palo Alto segment, just before it, is 25 mph. The Atherton segment is 30 mph - if I remember correctly. Willow is 25 mph. Why would this short segment be 35 mph? Particularly now that we have these great bicycle lanes. 30 mph is the fastest this segment should be.

On "Ravenswood Ave - Laurel St to Middlefield Rd" (from 30mph to 25mph)

This segment has multiple intersections, traffic signals, and pedestrians and bicycles. 25 mph makes much more sense than 30 mph.

Kudos to staff and everybody involved in these recommendations. I support them.
