Dear City Council Members:
I whole-heartedly support the proposed speed limit reductions. The past state-level practice of letting motorists determine speed limits based on what they think is safe was totally inappropriate because there that provides zero consideration of what was safe for pedestrians and bicyclists. This unfair and dangerous practice has only become worse as cars have become bigger and heavier so that a given speed is more dangerous than it used to be. The recent study that showed that Menlo Park streets are particularly unsafe is a strong impetus for action.
