Hello City Council, I have been following the consideration regarding additional scrutiny of projects by the city council. It seems to me that the additional process may not be worth the additional time and money it will cost. The process we have in place has served us well and pre-authorizing the appeal of large or impactful projects and automatically bringing these appeals to the City Council, as the new resolution requires, will require considerable staff time and create even longer waiting periods for the applicants. Already a daunting time period for these applicants. Additionally, City Council (in fact any City Council member, and any person including the applicant) already has the authority to review and appeal any Planning Commission action to the City Council and staff is now instructed to notify City Council of such actions the Planning Commission takes, so the City Council is actively aware of the issues. I don’t think tax payers really want to add more staff (to an already over-staffed city) and more pensions and more attorney and consultant fees automatically whenever the PC acts on a large project.
