Two or three weeks ago, a tree-trimming crew came through to work on our
six (6!) city trees. Id hoped to be able to ask them to raise the canopy
because, although we installed a nicely paved, broad sidewalk years ago, I
noticed that pedestrians were shirking the trees because the canopy was
(perceived to be) too low and therefore walking into the roadway even
though were in a bend and cars come zooming by. Besides the Recology
trucks also unwittingly always break branches, again because the pistache
trees grow low. I spoke to one of the workers the day before (the
supervisor had moved ahead along the street) because I couldnt be there on
the trimming day. When I got back the next morning, they had already
completed the trimming of our trees and ...* it was fantastic!* Im not
sure if the person I spoke with the day before had shared my concerns with
his supervisor or if the supervisor sensed the issue on his own, but they
did exactly what Id hoped for. I made a point of finding the team to thank
them but also wanted to convey my thanks to those who hired the crew. Im
not shy about writing with concerns when I have them and felt that
compliments were due in this situation.
