Problems at Burgess Pool

Dear City Council Members,

I’m writing to share my frustration about the recent schedule changes at
Burgess Pool. Our public pool is now closed to the public on weekdays from
10 am–3 pm, cutting out daytime swim hours that many residents count on. On
top of that, weekend hours have been shortened, with the pool closing an
hour earlier.

Further, three lanes in the lap pool are now taken up during the
already-reduced morning hours (9:15–10 am on Mondays and Wednesdays) by a
paid workout program called "Legends."

My kids have aged out of the wading pool, but Im annoyed on behalf of the
parents of younger children. This past summer, the wading pool was only
open from 1–4 pm, which lines up with nap time for most babies and
toddlers. Next summer, wouldnt it make sense to open the wading pool
during hours when little kids wont be sleeping?

For my family and many others, Burgess isn’t a business, it’s our community
pool. These changes make it feel like Team Sheeper is putting their own
interests first. I really hope the City will rethink this arrangement and
look at other possibilities. Burgess should be run with the community in
mind, and I’d be glad to support an operator who puts public access and
fairness ahead of profit.

Respectfully,

Nick Taylor
