Dear City Council, I just returned from my walk around the pond at Menlo Park. While there I spoke with a man who seemed to know a lot about the pond. He told me that the Koi population has decreased by at least 2/3 since the pond was emptied and cleaned. He said that the runoff after the rains has resulted in dye from the bark killing the Koi. I had noticed a difference in color of the water from the past. I know nothing of the science behind this, but I do know that we don't want dead Koi. Are the people who care for the pond knowledgeable about the care of this lovely pond? Also, since I began walking there I have noticed many dogs off leash running about in the grassy area. They don't seem to be a problem, but there are signs which say that dogs off leash are not allowed. This seems to occur late in the afternoon. The above pond expert told me that there is a woman who brings her dog to the pond. The dog barks and scares other dogs. Sorry that I don't know the breed of the offensive dog. Would it be possible to set up a "dog run" for people to let their dogs run free? Thank you, Sally Porter Received on Sat Jan 04 2020 - 18:36:12 PST
