hi city council,
i have emailed in comments many times in the past on this topic. i just want to re-emphasize for the 8/26 meeting that re-developing our parking lots into housing and mixed use commercial is essential to re-vitalizing downtown and i fully support it, for the future of our community. i long to see Menlo Park develop the way San Mateo, San Carlos, Redwood City, and other vibrant cities on the peninsula have and serve our families and community.
i am quite bothered by the “save downtown” noise and lawsuits that oppose this. it seems to be aligned with an old and sleepy vision of Menlo Park that is not about the future — my kids — but about resistance to change. i acknowledge that change is scary, but we need the housing, we need more downtown pedestrian life, and i want this home to be a place that embraces our changing demographics.
