Mayor Degolia: Maybe Atherton has an escape plan not being shared with other Peninsula communities. But it well appears that Atherton is part of this huge "jobs-rich" area and will otherwise qualify for higher-density housing under proposed SB 50. I attended a Java with Jerry (Hill) in my city of Mountain View on Saturday morning (Jan. 25). Senator Hill indicated that he would not be supporting SB 50 this week - as currently written. But the bill only needs 21 of 40 votes to pass the state senate. One young man in the audience told Senator Hill that he was a graduate student at Stanford and had noticed that Atherton seemed like a great place for higher-density housing. Maybe he will run for.
