Dear Members of the City Council,
As a dedicated long term resident of MP and a new business employee in our
downtown, I am writing to share my concerns about the proposal to convert
our downtown parking lots into high-density housing. I believe this plan,
and the narrow focus on it without exploring other locations in Menlo Park,
is a misstep that will negatively impact our community.
Our downtown thrives on accessibility. My colleagues, many of whom commute
to our new biotech company, have expressed deep concern about the potential
loss of convenient parking. They see this not just as a logistical problem
but as a threat to the unique character and charm that attracted them to
work here in the first place.
While I fully support the goal of improving downtown vitality, this project
is proving to be incredibly divisive. We have a chance to work together as
a community to find a path forward that is not so polarizing.
Lets pause this current proposal and collectively explore solutions that
meet our housing needs without sacrificing the convenient downtown parking
that is so crucial for our businesses and residents. I am confident that by
working together, we can find a solution that strengthens our community
rather than dividing it.
Best,
Peg Taylor
