Hello Menlo Park Council,
I am a community member who works in Menlo Park and lives in Palo Alto,
which allows me to bike to work. I am excited for this plan in Menlo Park
as we are also pursuing plans to build affordable housing on our downtown
parking lots. These homes will allow more of the workers in our community
to live here and be close to jobs, services and transit.
Funding for affordable housing is always a challenge and will not be easier
in the coming years given federal funding cuts, high interest rates, and
inflation. I support removing as many barriers and constraints as possible,
such as the ask to cover the costs of including replacement parking for
visitors to downtown. Being more than realistic about feasibility will
ensure a project and homes actually get built.
