Dear City Council of Menlo Park,
First - thank you for your service to our city. I believe you spend
countless hours trying to do the right thing for our city - and dont get
thanked for all you do.
I am a working single mom and a 26 year resident, and a 6th generation
Californian. I learned to swim in Menlo Park when I was less than a year
old, traveled to Menlo Park for all my orthodontic appointments for years
before settling down here and raising my children.
I love shopping in Menlo Park Downtown because its close, my tax dollars
go back to Menlo Park (not RWC or PA) and because I can find a place to
park for Cheeky Monkey, Ace Hardware my regular Chiropractor apts, my dads
hearing aid appointments, followed by lunch or dinner at Romas | Galatas
| AMICIs or a quick coffee at Starbucks or a cake from Susies. I can do
all these things because I can park downtown quickly and get in and out.
I definitely think we put housing near groceries and Caltrain and I like
the chosen design but we MUST replace the public parking underneath the
planned housing. The residents may not need it - as they are close to
public transit and shopping - but the rest of Menlo Park - like me - needs
to park and shop. Otherwise my dollars are likely to go to RWC, PA or
worst - Amazon.
Please assure the Developers will REPLACE all the public spaces with
parking. I votedfor the project on the condition that public parking
spaces would be preserved.
If parking cannot be accommodated by the builders- this project needs to be
placed on a public vote. Developers | City | Community | Local Businesses
- need to figure out how this parking gets built underground. I am sure it
can be done.
