Dear Menlo Park Council,
I am writing to express my sincere opposition to the proposed declaration of paring lots 1, 2 and 3 as surplus land in order to build low-income housing. As a business owner in downtown Menlo Park since 1991, I have invested a great deal of my life to helping to promote business in our city. We have had many ups and downs over the course of the last four decades, but nothing is as threatening to the vitality of our community as this proposal. The degree of self-inflicted harm is hard to overstate.
I sincerely hope that you will consider locating this project on one of the other sites that have been proposed. There is no way that the downtown will survive this. I have been speaking with my customers since this direction really came to light, and I can tell you that there is almost universal disbelief that such a proposal is even being considered, particularly in light of the other, more viable alternatives. I urge you all to reconsider your stance on this issue.
Best regards,
Stephen
