City Council -
My name is Jackie Caldwell. I am a Menlo Park resident, and have lived in the area for almost all of my life. The path you have gone down with the downtown development has shocked me, and I can’t believe you are willing to put our downtown business, and cultural center of our small town at risk.
I continue to be baffled why you are wasting resources on the parking lot development, despite the citizens of Menlo calling to put this to a vote. There are numerous other options to consider, such as Civic Center, SRI, Bohannon, that you continue to throw out ‘reasons as to why they won’t work, but move forward with the downtown planning that, too, has a plethora of issues.
Your duty as the city council is to listen to the current residents of Menlo Park. Our feedback has fallen on deaf ears time and time again. I ask that you please take in our feedback, and take into consideration the detriment it will cause to our beautiful small town, and to the people who have already chosen to live here, all while planning for a theoretical new community. We all want affordable housing, but downtown is not the right solution.
