Dear Council members
Unfortunately I am not able to attend tonight’s meeting, but am registering my concerns that the council will approve plans that are designed for .5 parking places or less per unit.
It is a fantasy to think that if a couple is occupying the unit, that they both would be carless. The existing public transportation infrastructure just is not there. One can be near a Caltrain station, but if your destination is NOT, what then? Similarly a mom with two small kids is not going to bike to get a week’s worth of groceries in the pouring rain, despite what the bike coalition folks say. The net effect will be that the tenants of the new buildings will utilize the reduced number of parking spaces downtown.
Thus my appeal is to look for scaled down plans or alternative sites.
