It’s a fallacy to say that issuing the RFP to six big time developers that want feee downtown land doesn’t commit the city to anything.
It commits the city to keeping alive a project that should go elsewhere.
It commits the city to defer looking at better alternate sources.
It commits developers to bid on a project its proponents now admit is not feasible unless the city pays for replacement parking.
It commits downtown merchants and shoppers to continued angst while the city prolongs a fundamental mistake that ignores the will of the people and survival of downtown.
Put away your protection of a bad decision and take downtown parking plazas out of the mix for meeting housing quotas.
Reject the RFP.
