TO: All Members of the City Council I reside and work in Menlo Park. I was very dismayed to read on Next Door and hear from others that downtown Santa Cruz Ave looked like “business as usual” today. I am sheltering in place in my home with my disabled daughter and not going to work. I do not understand why you are not taking more urgent actions to enforce the shelter in place provision. Why is the Menlo Park Police not driving down Santa Cruz Ave telling people to stay at home? Why are our restaurants still open and encouraging the spread of infection? Education and enforcement are the responsible things to do to protect the community you serve. The fact that restaurants are open, teenagers are riding their bikes around downtown and people are not practicing social distancing poses a threat to all of us. Please take this responsibility seriously and act now—not in two weeks or next month, not after your next meeting, but NOW.
