COPING WITH THE STRESS OF CORONAVIRUS

Honorable Mayor and Council Members: At some point, it may be helpful for the Fire Service and/or local/regional Government to provide MENTAL HEALTH service, as the toll on folks who are having a rough time of adjusting to the dynamics of this novel disease may pay a heavy toll. Folks experiencing * Fear * Anxiety * Stress * Sadness * Anger * etc. could benefit by being able to CALL a number, EMAIL a dedicated internet address, etc. to UNLOAD, discuss, share their feelings. Without this, the potential for greater harm is possible, including acting as a catalyst for physical disease that may have layed dormant for years. A 24/7 HOTLINE not so much to discuss do's and don'ts, but having a kind and gentle EAR may make all the difference. Trauma experienced by Fire Fighters, Police Officers, School Children (following the death of a fellow student) have psychologist help available - and for good reason. With this pandemic the reason is also present for many. Is this being discussed? It's easy to say "it's the other guys responsibility". Hint, hint, the other guy is you and me. We're all in this together. Thanks for listening. Stay well. Received on Thu Mar 19 2020 - 12:13:10 PDT
