Good evening Mayor Taylor and council,
Though I am not able to attend tonights meeting I wanted to make a public comment on agenda item H/H1. I would like to give thanks to Chief Norris for taking the time to speak to the Belle Haven Neighborhood Association last week regarding this item. I am also appreciative of the questions from members of the Council, staff and public regarding this item in the last eight months which led to the staff report we have today.
I am writing in complete support of MPPDs request of 35 fixed ALPRs with expected initial expenses of $133,250 and ongoing yearly costs of $112,500 annually.
While having a police department that is fully staffed to meet the growing needs of the city in addition to installing the Fixed ALPR technology is ideal, we do not have the budget capacity to do both at this time and therefore I fully support moving forward with the installation of the Fixed ALPR technology. It is also important that if Council does (and I hope you do) vote yes to install the Fixed ALPR technology that we ensure there is a continuous annual budget so that we are not faced with having 35 cameras in the city that will not be utilized due to underfunding. I would also like to ensure that the Council is given annual updates on the efficiency of the system by Chief Norris and or his Commander.
I thank you for the opportunity to share my support of agenda item H.H1.
Thanks!
Miyko Harris-Parker
Belle Haven Resident
