Dear City Council,
As a resident and homeowner in Sharon Heights, I am strongly in favor of preserving all the parkland in our city and strongly against changing any law that would enable re-zoning any parkland for single or multiple family home building structures.
When my husband and I first moved to the peninsula twelve years ago, we did not know about Menlo Park, but once we found Sharon Heights we loved the rolling hills, the pretty gardens and the beautiful Pond Park right in the neighborhood; the house we bought is walkable to the Pond Park, as well as to the park at the top of Trinity Drive and Valparaiso, making the neighborhood one of the most unique that we had seen while searching for our new family home.
I believe that there are much better locations in the city that are far more accessible to commercial areas and public transportation to build multiple unit housing, that would not take parkland in order to do so. Please reconsider the idea of converting any parkland into residential dwellings; once that is done the flavor of the lovely neighborhoods will be gone. We have had dozens of friends and family to our home during the dozen years we have lived here, some from other areas of California, some from elsewhere in the US, and many from overseas; all have remarked how beautiful this neighborhood is, and are delighted that such a pretty park is within it, accessible to all whether near or far, and that its presence is special.
I thank you for your time and consideration.
respectfully,
JoAnn Golden
