I support closing downtown Santa Cruz Ave to traffic

Councilmembers, We are residents of Menlo Park. We are very worried about our local restaurants' ability to survive the COVID19 pandemic, with its devastating economic impact. Even when restaurants are allowed to start seating customers again instead of being limited to take-out, one can imagine that they will still be required to maintain physical distancing, which will severely limit the number of customers that they can seat indoors at a given time. Closing Santa Cruz Avenue could allow them to set up tables on the street at appropriate distances and serve a greater number of customers. This could be done on an interim basis to see how it goes. We always especially enjoy strolling on Santa Cruz Avenue when it is closed to traffic (during festivals, for example), and can imagine wanting to permanently turn the downtown stretch of Santa Cruz Avenue into a pedestrian-only promenade, but that decision can be made at a later date. Please consider this proposal. We think it could help revitalize our downtown in the short, and perhaps long, term.
