Dear council, Please do NOT close any streets. Closing streets will greatly increase the distance people have to walk out in the open. It will also tend to concentrate people in specific parking lots. Instead of driving to the store and walking 50 feet across a parking lot, one will have to park far away and pass many people on the road or sidewalk. Given the simplistic, social-distancing metric of 6 feet is at best a rule of thumb and at worst dangerously incorrect, forcing people to spend more time herded together in the artificial canyon formed by the buildings along Santa Cruz Ave. places them and our community is greater danger. This will make it much more difficult to practice social distancing and cause higher transmission of the virus within Menlo Park. This is very counterproductive from a COVID perspective.
