Madam Mayor and Council of Chambers, My names Alex Mora and this will now be the second letter I send out, I greatly appreciate the support you all showed towards child care my only concern was the possibility of outside contracting and it then making whatever Preschool comes in private, yet again we would run into the problem of not making it affordable for myself and other families in the area, I'm also concerned with the conditions and best interest of the children would be if this became private, when I was listening to the meeting there were many calls from programs and outside funding that worked with them, they mentioned that Menlo Park made up most of child care and that they are almost to a tier 5, I didn't quite understand what that meant so I looked it up and there was a great deal of information and I found out it meant high quality care(quality rating and improvement system) that made me believe that there is more work that this center does in order to receive this funding there are certain criteria that must be met. I mean they all spoke very highly of this preschool, when looking around for preschools and child care there are very few centers at that tier so why would it make sense to eliminate such a high-quality preschool in a community where that's very much needed. I will provide the link for the agreement between San Mateo County of Ed and City of Menlo Park for 2018-2020 https://www.menlopark.org/Archive/ViewFile/Item/9527 that I also found out when just googling: Tier 5 Preschool San Mateo County, that's all I had to google for City of Menlo Park BHCDC to come up! That speaks for itself. In addition, the center is made up of the teachers that work closely without children, they also make up the community, these teachers have been there over 25 years, many live in the neighborhood with children who've also attended that school, they go above and beyond for our children, to have the center is to have the teachers, like I wrote in my last email my daughter loved all of her teachers, the experience wouldn't have been what it was without them and again I have now another child and it's makes both my wife and I anxious at the thought of not knowing the teachers that would be brought in or even any sort of community feel, I don't have other parents to ask about the other teachers or references of that sort. I like to see my child's school with diversity and with people who look like us. There are already so many changes that this would be a devastating hit to the community. I myself with many other families feel the same way, I hope you take the time to reconsider and have the best interest for the children. Thank You, Alex BHCDC Received on Thu May 14 2020 - 10:17:36 PDT
