Hi, My name is christina. I am writing this to express my concerns for the possible closure of BHCDC. My niece has gone there, my best friends 3 little girls have as well, with one set to start at reopen and one more next year. I have another niece who was born this year and I know the plan has always been to have her attend as well. I have lived in this community for 7 years, my husband has lived here since he was 5 on Terminal Ave he is now 42. We have watched this community change, making room for Facebook and making it hard to afford anything in the area. I could go on about the traffic and entitled Facebook workers, however that is not why I am writing this. We are expecting a baby in November and I already knew when the time came our baby too would attend the same school to get an amazing head start to school. I have been blessed to know one of the teachers there very well. She and her fellow teachers poor so much into these little ones. The care and devotion is unmatched by any I have seen. Caring so much for these little ones in the community, asking for donations so that the little ones have blankets for nap time due to parents not being able to afford any for their children. Paying for school supplies out of their own money. Making hard calls to have to get CPS involved. All this weighs on them, yet they come daily and show up with a huge smile and so much love for these little ones. When I’ve been out with one of the teachers she is recognized by former students all the time. They will yell “Teacher” or shyly have mom come up and start a conversation. It’s always the same. How much they love her and have loved being in her class. She takes pride in her classroom and her lessons. Always trying to find fun ways to teach these little ones. I can think of no one better to leave my child with than this gro up of amazing teachers. To take something like this out of our community where will these up and coming little ones go? This community has changed so very much it’s so sad, to take more out of the community is not a smart decision. We deal with so much from Facebook and I think it’s only fair to keep what we have in the community the same. Thank you so very much for taking time out of your day to read these concerns.
