To city employees of Menlo Park; it is understood that you must make some budget cuts for the coming fiscal year. It has come to my attention that Onetta Harris Comm. Center may be involved in those cuts. The fact that the center is closed presently due to circumstances regarding Covid-19 is understandable. From what I could discern from your last city council meeting, you don’t plan to reopen the center but move the services to Arrillaga Family Rec Center. If this is not the case, please excuse my misunderstanding. However if this is the recommendation, I beseech you to reconsider. Many seniors enjoy having a place to socialize in their own community. I know many of them enjoy getting together to have lunch and talk about what happening with their lives. I also know many of them won’t be commuting to the other side of town for a meal or socialization and neither should they have to do so. I hope you will take the seriousness of this issue into consideration before you take this benefit away from our seniors. Thank you for your time and may God guide you in the decisions you settle on.
