Dear City Council Members and Environmental Quality Commissioners,
Since the August 31st study session on the EQC's recommendations, I have been following the city's actions on implementing the Climate Action Plan.
First, I am so excited to see that the EQC will be discussing CAP Goal #1 to electrify existing buildings. I especially hope that to help out low-income residents, the City will increase the city's Utility Users' Tax rate to the level that voters have ALREADY APPROVED to fund building electrification for low-income residents.
Secondly, it is fantastic that they will also discuss staffing needs. I hope the City will not hesitate on dedicating staff and money to make real progress towards achieving CAP goals.
With the arrival of cold weather (lots of water heating and space heating!) and the holidays (lots of home cooking, roasting, and baking!), I think it is more important than ever to make the move away from methane as our source of fuel, as well as source of greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants.
Thank you so much for your work on Climate Action!
