Dear City Council,
Please see the second item for a Nov 8 (2-3:30 p.m.) informational meeting regarding a new San Mateo county-wide new Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters/Community Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD/COAD). San Mateo County would benefit from having one central organization, modeled on the official one for Santa Clara County, that brings stakeholders together along with government partners. San Mateo County has two regional VOADs that I know of. One focuses on the Coastside (Coastside CERT) and the other focuses on East Palo Alto and nearby (South County COAD).
I have registered.

San Mateo County Collaborating During Disaster - Informational Meeting
Monday, November 8, 2:00 - 3:00 pm
As San Mateo County moves towards creating its own VOAD/COAD, (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster, Community Organizations Active in Disaster), SFCARD, Thrive Alliance, Red Cross Northern California Coastal Region, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, and San Mateo County Department of Emergency Management invites you to discuss how San Mateo County Community Based Organizations, Faith-Based Organizations, and Government can better coordinate during disasters. We will discuss what a VOAD/COAD is, how it can work in our County, and how it will benefit San Mateo County’s disaster response.
We will be joined by special guest Marsha Hovey, Interim Executive Director of CADRE (Collaborating Agencies’ Disaster Relief Effort), Santa Clara County's VOAD/COAD, to talk about our neighboring county's experience.

Recent Housing Legislation: Impacts & Oppurtunities
Tuesday, November 16, 12:00 - 1:30 pm
California suffers from a deficit of 3.5 million homes. This scarcity feeds poverty, homelessness, sprawl, and erodes the stability of the middle class, and has a disproportionate impact on Black and Latino households. The California Legislature recently passed SB9 and SB10, as well as other housing legislation. How will these new housing laws affect San Mateo County and our housing issues?
Michael Lane, the State Policy Director at SPUR, a nonprofit working across the political spectrum to develop solutions to the big problems cities face, will lead a panel discussion that will provide clarity on the intent of these measures, the likely timeline for change, and explore what they say about the neighborhoods of the future.
Join Thrive Alliance and The League of Women Voters of North and Central San Mateo County for this important discussion.
