Dear Menlo Park City Council: As a Menlo Park resident and a devoted Menlo Masters swimmer who was using the Burgess pool anywhere from 4-6 times per week before the COVID-19 shelter-in-place rules went into effect, I have been dismayed and extremely frustrated by the very slow response with regard to Menlo Park’s reopening of Burgess pool. As a vital part of the community that supports physical and mental health as well as community awareness and closeness, Burgess must be reopened now! Other neighboring communities/clubs have successfully done this, with appropriate social distancing and other precautions, and such a pool reopening would be easily aligned with the San Mateo county guidelines. Furthermore, there is absolutely no medical evidence that a swimming pool can transmit the virus or confer a risk that is any higher than standard activities. I see no reason for your inaction.
