Black Lives Matter real change in Menlo Park

Dear mayor and city council members, I am writing in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and as a voice for real change in our city. I implore the city council to support real police reform, explicitly along the lines of the #8cantwait plan. 1. Ban Chokeholds and Strangleholds. 2. Require De-escalation 3. Require Warning Before Shooting 4. Require Exhaust All Alternatives Before Shooting 5. Enforce Duty to Intervene 6. Ban Shooting at Moving Vehicles 7. Require Use of Force Continuum 1. Require Comprehensive Reporting Additionally, Menlo Park should immediately: • Outfit all on-duty police officers with a body-worn camera and requires that the body-worn camera be turned on immediately when officers respond to a police call. • Employ evidence-based police de-escalation trainings. • Add policies that spell out the obligation to stop a colleague’s violence, known as a “duty to intervene” Real, visible, timely police reforms are a first step in helping our city become anti-racist. Please work to implement these policies immediately. Sincerely, Devin Prouty 812 Arbor Rd Received on Wed Jun 10 2020 - 12:56:07 PDT
