Honorable Mayor Taylor and Council Members, Menlo Park’s Sister City, Galway, Ireland - Mayor’s last day is tomorrow at which time a new mayor will be selected. Their term of office is on a fiscal year basis. Generally their Mayor travels to Menlo Park for St. Patrick’s Day in March but this year that wasn’t possible due to Covid-19. They can learn from us and we can learn from them as both city’s have much in common during their nearly 150 year relationship dating back to 1853. As the city council AGM is tomorrow where a new Mayor will be elected, I want to thank each of you for engaging, supporting and at times challenging me throughout the year ! My family, friends, support team and colleagues on Galway City Council have been extremely supportive of me so I owe them a huge thank you. I had the honour of attending 295 events in person and 4 more on zoom and each of them were as important as the other. I am grateful to all those I met for the amazing welcome I received. I had the pleasure of representing Galway City in America, England, Belgium, Croatia and China which I did with pride and great honour. It has been a year to remember for me on a personal level but also for my family, campaign team and community. As I end my year I want to again mention the young people of Galway who I have engaged with throughout. Their opinions and views are crucial to how we develop our city into the future.
