Honorable Mayor Taylor and City Council Members, I am thrilled that you are on the verge of adopting a historic new reduction target of carbon neutral emissions by 2030! I fully support your efforts to prioritize aggressive climate action as well as environmental justice by recognizing that Menlo Park’s most vulnerable residents will be most impacted by climate change. We are in a global climate emergency and time is running out. As Pope Francis recently put it, “Climate change is a problem that can no longer be left to a future generation.” Thank you for wanting to step up now to meet this challenge. I urge you to meet it head-on by voting to adopt the Environmental Quality Commission’s proposed new Climate Action Plan. "Think globally, act locally" has never been a more impactful motto than it is today.
