Honorable Mayor Taylor and city Council Members: We are writing to express our support to committing Menlo Park to becoming a zero carbon city by 2030. Thank you for your leadership on climate action which has created a regional model for action! We need such strong and continued climate leadership now more than ever. While our entire city will experience the deleterious impacts of climate change, we are aware that the community of Belle Haven will bear the brunt of the serious impacts from climate change, especially rising sea levels. Please help our community’s chance to turn this around! We support the Environmental Quality Commission’s plan with recommendations for a new climate target: Zero Carbon by 2030 and Climate Action Plan with focussed measures to reduce pollution. We have recently become grandparents for the first time and feel even more strongly than ever the need for immediate action to make the future a climate-stable one FOR ALL. Whatever can be done to avoid the worst and irreversible impacts of climate change must be done through speedy, far reaching and unprecedented measures.
