Dear City Council Members, My hope is that you and all your loved ones are staying safe and healthy during these uncertain and turbulent times we are facing around the world. I am writing to express my thoughts and concerns regarding resuming the overnight parking citations. As you may know, COVID-19 is disproportionately impacting minorities and people of color. While we have to shelter in place, many lower-income and larger extended families are being impacted profoundly, as we have to live and work in smaller homes. Latino families and communities in most cases live with extended family members or have decided to shelter in place together to take care of elderly family members or other members of their families. For the reasons stated above I am requesting that the City Council reconsider Resuming the Overnight Parking citations, as I feel this will have a negative impact on those larger extended families, minorities, and latino families living together in smaller homes that do not have large enough parking spaces on premises. I would also like to point out that with the increase in COVID-19 cases in our county, there might be another mandatory shut down of most businesses, please keep in mind that this pandemic is nowhere near over.
