Dear Mayor and City Council Members

Representing people of all ages across the County, I respectfully request
that the City of Menlo Park prepare its residents for the upcoming Zero NOx
rules from the Bay Area Quality Management District. Your adoption of a
Resolution tonight, supporting the new rules, is essential.

The Councils continued leadership and guidance will help smooth the
transition to new electric water heaters and heating sources. Menlo Park
will be a model for other cities.

Council and staff are aware of rules 9-4 and 9-6. These carefully vetted
regulations will require, upon* gas equipment burnout*, Zero NOx
replacements beginning in 2027 for gas water heaters and 2029 for gas
furnaces of a certain size.

Letting everyone know now that changes are coming will create good plans,
and line up available rebates and other funding.

Thank you for your commitment to a response to the climate crisis.

Sincerely,

Robert Whitehair
San Mateo
