My question is … “what are you thinking” MP City Council?  There are several appropriate sites in MP that have been brought to your attention for “Affordable Housing” units with adequate parking and more, (which, BTW,  in the end are rarely affordable for teachers, home workers, caregivers, landscape/garden workers, to name a few), but it appears the direction MP is pursuing is to take away the (already not enough) existing parking space for those who work in downtown MP and those who drive to MP to do business, enjoy a meal, shop, etc.
To take away parking in downtown MP, to house those that might afford the rent but may very well not afford to shop in MP, is absurd.  Can those living in affordable housing afford to shop at Draeger’s or go to Clark’s for lunch or dinner on a regular basis?  It would be great if they could, but “affordable” housing is often $1500.00 or more a month for a studio?  And where are all those people going to park ... especially since there will not be adequate underground parking in the proposed structures for the residents in those structures.
What happens when the current doctors, retail, other service providers and their patients/clients/customers cannot park nearby?  Will they move to areas that are easier to get to and park nearby?
Do you really believe that everyone in the MP community can walk and do what they need to do in the downtown MP area without driving and having available, close parking?
If MP wants to build something in MP, how about a three level parking structure in the center area/space where the City Council wants to put one of the multi-story "low cost housing" structures!
The three housing structures that MP City Council is proposing will kill the downtown area.  It will become another housing area where residents will have to go elsewhere to shop locally ... heartbreaking.
MP can have an effective affordable housing program if those in the decision making process would look at other sites available that would not take away the ease of parking in downtown MP in order to conduct business, eat locally and spend money with the local shops.
