Dear Council Members,
I'm writing in support of John Pimentel and Henry Riggs' proposal to build housing with parking in downtown Menlo Park, as expressed in a guest opinion in The Almanac.
Let's consider how we can make downtown a denser, more useful, and more climate-friendly place. Open, surface parking lots waste space, create heat zones, and produce rain runoff. Bringing more residents into the city's core has the potential to enliven and perhaps bring new businesses into our sleepy downtown. Such a project would require contextual re-visioning of downtown, but it is an interesting approach to meeting the state requirement for new housing units. And it could do even more.
