My favorite quote about our climate crisis is from Robert Swan, polar explorer:
"The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”
This is a loud wake-up call about the fact that, mostly unknowingly, ALL of us have contributed to the climate crisis we’re in and ALL of us need to do everything we can to tackle it head-on. Unfortunately, we're still "spewing 152M tons of manmade, global-warming pollution into the thin shell of our atmosphere every 24 hours—as if it were an open sewer,” says Al Gore.
We’re out of time to dither over the cost of climate-change mitigation. This investment in solar and other energy improvements for the new community center in Belle Haven is wise and strategic, since it will save our city millions in the long run and reduce emissions in the short and long term. Smarter still is the commitment to take action NOW to reduce dangerous emissions and prepare this Menlo Park neighborhood for decades of sustainability.
Thank you, City Council Members, for your focus, study, persistence and leadership that has led to this fantastic project! Please take a bow.
